Platform documentation
Everything you need to run a successful IBC homebuyer election.
Platform overview
The Varied Reach e-Voting Platform is a multi-tenant SaaS application purpose-built for Insolvency Professionals (IPs) to conduct Homebuyer Monitoring Committee Nominations and Elections under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016. The platform covers the full election lifecycle: → Assignment creation (IBC case setup) → Project and Tower management → Homebuyer import (CSV/Excel) → Nomination event management → Candidate review and approval → Election creation and launch → OTP-authenticated voting (passwordless, unique link per voter) → Encrypted ballot storage (AES-256-GCM) → Result declaration and audit log export
Assignments
An Assignment represents a single insolvency case. It links a Project (and its Towers and Homebuyers) to a specific RP or team. Creating an Assignment: 1. Navigate to Assignments → New Assignment 2. Enter case name, RP name, and CIRP date 3. Save — the assignment is now the root for all downstream data Each assignment can have multiple projects, nomination events, elections, and quotes associated with it. All data is scoped to your organisation — other organisations cannot see your assignments.
Homebuyer import
Homebuyers are imported via CSV or Excel. The file must have the following columns: name – Full name of the homebuyer (required) email – Registered email address (required) flatNumber – Flat/unit identifier (required) towerName – Tower name as defined in the system (required) mobile – Mobile number (optional) Maximum file size: 10MB. Maximum rows: no hard limit — large imports are processed in batches. After import, homebuyers are attached to the project-tower combination. Duplicate emails within the same project are rejected. Sample CSV download: available on the Homebuyers page inside the platform.
Nominations
Nomination Events manage the candidate discovery and vetting process before an election. Lifecycle: DRAFT → PUBLISHED → OPEN → REVIEW → CLOSED → ARCHIVED 1. Create a Nomination Event — set title, deadline, tower scope, and instructions 2. Publish — makes the event visible (for configured intake channels) 3. Open — starts accepting nominations 4. Nominations are submitted with supporting documents 5. RP reviews each nomination: Approve / Request Correction / Reject 6. Close — freezes the list; move to candidate approval 7. Publish candidate list — homebuyers can see approved candidates Bulk actions: approve all, reject all, export register.
Elections
An Election is created from an approved candidate list from a closed Nomination Event. Steps: 1. Assignments → Project → Elections → New Election 2. Select the Nomination Event (source of candidates) 3. Set voting start and end dates 4. Select which towers are eligible to vote 5. Open Election — generates unique voting tokens for every eligible homebuyer 6. Homebuyers receive their voting link (email send is handled by the RP's communication) 7. Voting closes automatically at the end date (or can be closed manually) 8. Declare Result — decrypts and tallies votes; publishes the result Election statuses: DRAFT → OPEN → CLOSED → RESULT_DECLARED
Voting links
Each homebuyer receives a unique URL of the form:
https://evoting.variedreach.com/vote/{token}
Where {token} is a 256-bit (32-byte, base64url) cryptographically random token. Properties:
• Single-use — consumed on first successful vote cast
• Bound to one homebuyer — OTP verification cross-checks the registered contact
• Time-limited — only works while the election status is OPEN
To get voting links: Elections → Open Election → Download voting links (CSV). The CSV contains one row per homebuyer with their name, email, flat number, and unique link.
To resend: Elections → Voter list → Resend link for specific homebuyer. Results & reports
After closing an election, click Declare Result. The server: 1. Decrypts all stored ballot choices with the ELECTION_ENCRYPTION_KEY 2. Tallies votes per candidate 3. Records the tally in the database 4. Sets election status to RESULT_DECLARED The results page shows: • Total eligible voters • Votes cast (turnout %) • Per-candidate vote count and percentage • Winner highlighted Downloads available: • PDF result report (branded, with audit summary) • Excel export (candidate × vote count) • Full audit log PDF
Login & OTP
The platform uses passwordless OTP authentication. There are no stored passwords. Login flow: 1. Enter your registered work email 2. A 6-digit code is emailed to you (valid for 10 minutes) 3. Enter the code → you are signed in If you do not receive the code: • Check spam / junk folder • Ensure the from address support@variedreach.com is not blocked • Request a new code (previous code is invalidated) • Contact support if the issue persists Sessions use short-lived JWT access tokens (15 min) plus a rotating httpOnly refresh token cookie (7 days). Sessions expire after 7 days of inactivity.
Roles & permissions
Three roles exist: SUPER_ADMIN • Platform-level access • Manages pricing plans and rules • Can see all organisations (read-only) • Does not have access to organisation data by default RP (Insolvency Professional) • Full access to their organisation's data • Can create/manage assignments, projects, nominations, elections • Can declare results and download all reports • Can manage team members TEAM_MEMBER • Same access as RP within their organisation • Cannot manage billing or team membership All API endpoints enforce role checks. A TEAM_MEMBER token cannot call any endpoint restricted to RP or SUPER_ADMIN, and cannot access data from another organisation.
Quotes & billing
Pricing is rule-based and stored in the database — nothing is hardcoded. Generating a quote: 1. Navigate to Pricing (sidebar) → New Quote 2. Select pricing plan (Starter / Professional / Enterprise) 3. Enter voter count, duration, questions, and premium features 4. The calculator shows breakdown in real time 5. Save → generate PDF documents Document types: • Proposal — narrative + pricing summary for client approval • Quotation — formal itemised quote • Proforma Invoice — for advance payment • Tax Invoice — post-payment GST invoice All PDFs include your organisation header, Varied Reach footer, GST details, and page numbers.
